Men’s 2 faced Wootton Wanderers on Saturday at a cold and damp TLC. After last's defeat the home side were keen to make amends. So with a few returning players and a tweaked formation we started strongly against the visitors, who many will remember were promoted last season with us having won all their matches (thanks in no part to having some players who previously played in the same league as our 1s!). We managed to take the lead through a well worked move down the right - Scott on hand to drive the ball home giving their GK no chance. However, the visitors hist back with 2 quick goals the second from their striker who dribbled through our defence to slot home. However, we did not wilt and continued attacking and got our equaliser just before half time - Ian Maries with a strong shot to make it 2-2 at the break.
The HT message was to keep passing the ball and we started to make inroads into their defence but couldn't apply the finish. Suddenly we found ourselves two goals down - the first a reverse strike into the corner and the second following an aerial into the D which their forward managed to get a touch on - Tim did manage to flatten the player though. We weren't disheartened and race back up the pitch to scramble home our 3rd - Nathan celebrating his birthday with a tap-in from a metre. We had a flurry of short corners to find the equaliser but couldn't convert any and then disaster as they broke away and scored a killer 5th - (with a player off the pitch as well). So it ended in a 5-3 defeat but we can take huge heart in a battling performance against a well drilled team. Thanks to Vicky and Rob for umpiring (sorry for whinging ;) )
Mom - Richard Davies - great shift in midfield (even if he ran off the pitch)
Dod - Louis
