The Ladies 3s came back strong yesterday after their first loss of the season last week. The 8-0 victory against Sonning, was their highest goal scoring match this season! Despite the awful weather which had them all soaked before the match had even started, they played well as a team and morale never dropped.
It was a strong start with a couple of great goals that came from playing the ball around the goalkeeper (JayPee would have been proud) with Lizzie, Rosie and Clare F all scoring 2, and Meg and Caitlin smashing in another one each.
Play in the middle of the pitch was very calm, despite the pressure that the Sonning Ladies' presented as they closed down the ball carrier but Sally, Alex and Amy were very skilled in easily maneuvering the ball around them. Clare F brought the new tactic of 'switching' which really helped create space and make passing opportunities that Claire M often helped carry out very effectively, which lead to her very deserving MoM win. Lynne and Bea put pressure up the sides of the pitch and kept many balls from entering our end. It was a quiet game for Charlotte in the goal as Laura and Clara were strong at the back and both made some excellent clearances. Of course Julie's managing from the sidelines cannot be forgotten and was an important part of the L3s win by keeping eveyone subbing frequently and holding the right positioning on the pitch, though we look forward to seeing her in action again soon!
Even through the freezing and wet last quarter of the match the team kept going and ultimately it was everyone's positive attitudes and good spirit that ensured we didn't slip and concede any goals. Another great triumph from the Thame Ladies 3s!
Welcome back Claire M and many thanks to Clara, Charlotte and Clare F.
