Girls get a well deserved win

For the first time this season the rain stayed away and this was obviously a good omen. Play started and Thame were instantly upsetting Aylesbury's flow. The girls were attacking hard and after only four minutes they were awarded a short corner. After a perfect injection from Erin the ball went straight to Charley who executed the textbook delivery, straight strike smacking the back boards, goal! 1-0. The Thame girls were definitely uplifted by this and piled on the pressure but the illusive second goal did not come. In the second quarter Aylesbury had obviously had a tough talking to and were on the attack and it was their turn to be awarded a short corner. The players set up and in fired the ball but Thame were ready and a few moments later Zoe cleared the ball, firing it out at great force clearing to the 23. Aylesbury did not give up and still had the upper hand but again Thame's defence held firm and some great clearances from Emily and Katie. Half time, whilst munching on the jelly babies, the girls were reminded about shape, width and marking. Out they went for the third quarter and Aylesbury were still fired up and pressure was back on our defence but another great save from Zoe seeing the ball back in Thame's possession. With some great passing up the field the ball found Amelia who ran nearly half the length of the pitch but with players coming at her from all angles her shot went just wide. The girls were coming back together now and the runs were coming faster with some excellent interceptions by everyone and some fantastic runs by Charley, taking the ball down the right side of the pitch and firing it across the D but the girls couldn't quite get that important last touch. The last quarter came and Aylesbury were not giving up and they were back in our D. The ball was coming back and forth and finally they sneaked it over the line, 1-1. The girls went back for the push back undeterred and were straight back on the attack, being awarded a short corner not long after. The girls decided to mix it up a little and Erin pushed the ball to an awaiting Amelia who took her turn at the straight strike, goal! 2-1. With only seconds left on the clock the girls were back in the D and trying for another goal and on the final whistle were awarded their third short corner. With all 10 Thame outfield players circling the D, it was all or nothing. Erin pushed the ball out to a waiting Charley who once again pulled out the perfect straight strike. Final Score 3-1 and a well deserved win for the girls who all played their hearts out and showed such determination and great team spirit. MOM - Zoe who pulled out some fantastic saves keeping the score line firmly in Thame's favour.
