The sun came out on Sunday at Oxford Hawks and the U10s and U9s squads enjoyed another great tournament!
For the U9s, two early goals in the first game against Wallingford led to an unlucky 2-1 defeat for Thame. The children fought incredibly hard to pull one goal back with a goal from Bella and, due to solid defence and all-round great passing, were unlucky not to pull another back having dominated the game after conceding those early goals. The second game against Cirencester resulted in a close 1-1 draw. After this, solid defence, great passing in midfield and determination at the front brought a fantastic 2-0 win against Oxford with two more goals from Bella. The last game resulted in a 2-0 loss to a strong Banbury side with the children working so hard all the way through and never giving up. Overall, another exciting and determined performance from our U9’s who finished 4th overall in their draw. Well done to all, we really are seeing all that hard work at training paying off. We also had a debut from the squad’s new U9 keeper, Barnie, who had a phenomenal first tournament!
The U10s had a strong squad of 11 players and they opened their account with a very impressive 2-0 win against a strong Wallingford side, with 2 good goals from Hattie on her debut. Next up was Bicester, against whom we were unlucky not to walk away with all the points, having dominated proceedings for most of the match. A lone goal from Leo, matched by a late and lucky goal for Bicester saw us walk away with a 1-1 draw. A 1-1 draw with Oxford, again much against the run of play (Leo on the scoresheet again) was quickly followed by a final game against Banbury. With two excellent goals from the in-form Hattie, we finished the tournament on a high, with a 2-0 win and first place in the tournament!! It was a strong squad performance, with great skills, team spirit and determination across the board, the hard work in training paying off. Special mentions should go to Alessandra and Charlie, who dominated the midfield, supported by Jake, Lucas (debut) and Poppy. Ned was again excellent in goal, protected by a defensive line-up including Annabel (debut), Ruth and Aiden (debut). Well played you lot!
