Witney Tournament U8s

We were blessed with a glorious sunny day at Cokethorpe school to start off the season of tournaments and for this early fixture had entered just the one side made up of returning players from last year.
Within 30 seconds of the whistle blowing the backboard was resounding with the first Thame goal of the year scored by Josh after a well-worked counter attack, although sadly the success was short-lived as we lost the first game to Wallingford by 4 goals to 1.
The team were quick to rally though and started to play some excellent passing hockey in the second match which led to a comfortable victory against Banbury 3-0. The Hawks B were to prove a sterner test, but the team continued to play really well with Chloe G making her match debut, some great stick-work on display in midfield from Imogen and Hamish, and Chloe S scoring a very well worked goal to draw the match 1-1. The final game was against the top of the table Oxford side and despite 2 well worked goals from Josh and Kit and some outstanding goalmouth defending from Charlotte and Erin, we were unfortunate to concede a late equalizer to end the match 2-2.
A great day was had by all and it was brilliant from a coaches perspective to see both the enjoyment, team ethic and improvement in the team - they have come a long way since that first tournament in the driving rain at Hawks last year.
We very much look forward to the next match and to see some of our newer players coming through.
