What a fun day with the U8 squad at the Oxford Hockey Club festival today! We took two teams, being a mixture of players with experience and those who were coming into their first tournament today. All showed amazing team play, determination and were a huge credit to Thame hockey club!
Thame A played their first game against Oxford HC A team. Well done to Maisie, Florence M, Florence M (no. 2). Lewis and Caitlin who played their debut for THC and all overcame their initial nerves and got stuck in. A hard fought game throughout and Thame were very unlucky to concede a goal in the last few minutes. Thame A went on to draw the next game after going ahead in the first five minutes with a fantastic goal from Georgie Cook, well done Georgie - what a goal! Thame went on to draw their next game, again with a early goal from Josh. The team were then unlucky to concede a late goal given the consistent strong play in defence from Erin. The last game also saw a draw from Thame, unlucky after very strong midfield play from Emma and Imogen which led to Thame dominating the game but unable to get that goal in.
Meanwhile Thame B also took on an Oxford HC team for their first game with really strong debuts for Olive, Clementine, Joaquin, Noah and Freya. This was a really hard fought game with chances at both ends and we felt unlucky to lose by one goal. A very tight goalless draw vs Hawks followed with good defense from Daisy and Anushri and with Chloe coming close on a number of occasions to threading it through the very narrow cones. Florence M (no.2) then joined up with the team for the second half and after a narrow defeat to Wallingford, the team finished on a high in a rematch of the first game, with a well earned victory over Oxford following a very good finish from Kit.
Overall, a massive well done to all our players today, we are super proud of you all and must give a special mention to Noah and his parents for being the one player to then also turn up for normal training at 1pm. We would also like to say a massive thank you to all the rest of U8 parents for all of your fantastic support throughout the day!
Thank you,
Justin, Michelle and Matt
