Surprise surprise the sun was out and no rain in sight. Must have been a good omen as the girls started strong immediately stealing possession from Amersham and Chalfont’s push back. Thame were constantly skirting the ball around the edge of the D but just couldn’t get it through. I think Charley had enough and decided that this had to end, pulling the ball one way and then the other and executing a perfect strike, 1-0. Buoyed by this the girls again stole possession almost immediately and started piling on the pressure resulting in a short corner. Amersham & Chalfont’s defenders were ready so a quick decision resulted in a fabulous deflection into the goal by Erin, 2-0. Amersham got on the attack this time and our defenders had to wake up quickly but those dreaded feet just got in the way seeing Amersham & Chalfont awarded a short corner. Immediately Charley flew out the blocks like Usain Bolt getting to the top of the D at the same time as the ball and with a bit of battling she was clear firing the ball up to our forwards. Thame had the majority of the possession but Amersham & Chalfont were just keeping us at bay. Full credit to the team who never gave up and finally Charley was given the space she needed to put the ball in the back of the goal again, 3-0.
So the second half came and again Thame were immediately pressuring with quite a few shots on goal and being awarded a couple of short corners but the goal was not coming. Finally Charley got a cracking shot off but it was saved by the goalie however Olivia, perfectly placed, gathered up the rebound and made sure it was securely in the back of the goal, 4-0. Amersham were working out our weaknesses and with our team playing quite high they were able to start putting in the counter attacks and catching Thame out resulting in a goal, 4-1. It was not over yet though with Daisy, Erin, Hattie, Charley and Olivia constantly stealing the ball, Thame were rewarded with two more goals from Charley and Daisy. The team did really well today and special mention to Ava who played out of position but gave a great performance filling in as a half, Charley for being superhuman and Erin who I made play in every conceivable position but she never gave anything less than 100% and always with a smile! Thank you to all the girls and of course the parents for their support. Final score 6-1. MoM joint Charley/Tamsin.
