GU16 Thame v Reading Revels
By Nina Chadbone
We knew this was going to be a tough match having lost 2-3 at out last encounter, but the girls were up for the fight. We started well however our passes kept being intercepted and we couldn't seem to find the flow, but the girls kept their work rate high. Their efforts were rewarded and Thame powered down the pitch passing to Amy who slotted it into the goal, 1-0. Reading seemed shocked by this early goal and piled on the pressure and after 4 minutes got a goal back. Thame did not give up and immediately took the ball down the pitch and were awarded a short corner. It was over in seconds. With a text book short powered up to the top of the D where a waiting Amy stopped it and fired it into the goal, 2-1. Thame were now in charge and were having chance after chance but just couldn't find that last all important touch. In the dying minute of the first half Reading saw their chance and with an interception caught out Thame's defence and scored, 2-2. At half time, Reading clearly had a stern talking to and came back hard and strong in the second half scoring to take the lead in the first few minutes. With Thame now chasing and girls getting tired, they carried on giving it their all and finally another short corner was awarded. The whole process was repeated from the first half with Amy receiving the injection and firing it straight into the back of the goal, 3-3. The girls carried on fighting but decisions were not going our way and although most of the play was in Thame's attacking half and Reading seemingly able to get away with playing football as well as hockey, Reading caught us out on two more occasions streaking down the pitch and scoring. Final Score 3-5 but this does not reflect the match with the Thame girls having far more chances at goal than Reading. MOM Amy. Well done everyone.
Massive thank you to the supportive parents who kept me calm and level headed throughout the match!
