Ladies' Results
The Ladies 1s climbed to third after a brilliant 3-1 win over league leaders Oxford Hawks 3s. Facing a side that had lost just once all season, Thame knew they were in for a tough afternoon. With only a short warm-up before the 4pm pushback, the team had to hit the ground running, and that's exactly what they did. It was one of the best games of hockey the side has played this season, with everyone putting in a huge shift and contributing to the result. C. Sharpe, B. Lambourne and K. Moore all found the net to cap off a fantastic performance. It also makes it three wins in a row for the 1s, who have now beaten Windsor, Staines and the league leaders in consecutive weeks. The sunset and supporters watching under the lights made it all the sweeter.
The Ladies 2s stayed top of the table with a 4-1 win over South Berkshire 2s. It was a good test against a strong opposition, who made Thame work hard for their goals. C. Harris continued her excellent season with another two, maintaining her position as the division's top scorer, while A. Laws and R. Chantrey also got on the scoresheet. Another three points and a result that keeps Thame at the summit!
The Ladies 3s moved into top spot after an emphatic 8-0 win over Enigma 1s. A positive pre-match team talk seemed to do the trick, as Thame came flying out of the blocks and scored twice inside the opening 16 minutes. They went into half-time 4-0 up and, despite Enigma trying to disrupt their rhythm, kept their composure and stuck to their game. Good passing and movement created plenty of chances in the second half, with four more goals completing an excellent afternoon. A. Hill led the way with a hat-trick, while J. Faller, S. Sampson, S. Brown, G. Reaney and B. Crowther also got in on the action. It follows their 5-1 win over Abingdon last time out, meaning the 3s have now scored 13 goals across their last two games. A pretty good way to take over at the top of the table.
The Ladies 4s had a difficult afternoon away at Abingdon 2s, losing 4-0. The result sees Thame move to 12th in the table. They'll be keen to put the defeat behind them and get back to picking up points in the coming weeks.
The Ladies 5s came away from Oxford with a deserved 3-1 win over Oxford 7s. V. Cojeen, C. Bosley and M. White all found the net as Thame picked up a good away result against a side sitting higher in the table. It was another positive result for the 5s, who remain seventh and will take plenty of confidence from getting three goals on the road.
Men's Results
The Men's 1s came close to taking points away from league leaders Henley 2s, but narrowly lost 3-2. Thame went behind early on but responded well, only to find themselves 2-1 down at half-time. The second half was a close contest, with B. Caiger and D. Williams getting on the scoresheet, but Henley just had enough to take the win.
The Men's 2s made it 16 goals in their last three games with a 6-1 win away at Milton Keynes 3s, moving up to third in the table. It was a sluggish first half from Thame, who went in 1-0 down, but the side came out with a different attitude after the break. Moving the ball better and playing with more confidence soon paid off, as they scored six unanswered goals to turn the game around. N. Jones grabbed another two, taking his tally to six goals across the last three matches, while S. Chignall also continued his run of scoring in each of those games. B. Rudolph and M. Dales also found the net, while T. Creswell got himself on the scoresheet too, much to his own delight and probably a few teammates' surprise. It's another strong attacking performance from a side that's starting to look rather dangerous in front of goal.
The Men's 3s were beaten 4-0 by a strong Oxford 5s side, but gave their opponents plenty to think about. Thame knew they were up against a tough, fit and physical team, but held their own for long spells and created chances of their own. Having won their previous two games against Oxford 6s and Buckingham, the 3s had been building some good momentum, but this was a step up in opposition. As the game wore on, tiredness started to creep in and it became harder to keep Oxford out. The scoreline was disappointing, but the whole team kept running and fighting right to the end.
The Men's 4s narrowly lost 2-1 to Tring 2s in a close game with plenty of end-to-end action. Thame got off to a great start, with B. Bosley scoring an excellent early goal to put the side ahead. Tring came out fighting after the break and, despite a strong defensive effort from Thame, found a way through with two short-corner goals. It was a much closer contest than last week's defeat, and there was plenty to like about the overall performance, even if the 4s will be frustrated not to have taken something from the game.
