Ladies 1s v Newbury & Thatcham 1s

One of our furthest travels in the league for Ladies 1s yesterday, heading down the A34 to take on Newbury and Thatcham.
With only 12 players in today's squad, we knew we couldn't really afford any injuries.

Pitch warm up was pretty short lived, due to the previous match running late, but we managed to get in a quick team cha cha slide again! ?

We won the toss today (actually umpires didn't have a coin so oppo give us the option of what to do first) 'We'll have push back thanks'! Within 2 mintues we were attacking down the right through Charli and Katie, Katie finding Chopper who fired at goal......saved by the keeper......rebound came back to Chopper who made no mistake this time and fired it high into the net.

With less the 10 minutes on the clock a scare for Thame, Claire going in for a tackle but rolling her ankle in the process ??, a short time on the sidelines to rest and assess it, and a few minutes later was back in the thick of things, #madeofsternerstuff!

We kept passing the ball around nicely, transfering around the back, stacking the front 3 and lead running to the corners. However another scare at 20 minutes, Mary taking a ball to the thumb! ? This time there was no quick rest on the sideline, her game was done!

We had numerous attacks on the Newbury goal, but their defence was having an absolute stormer and were manageing to keep our efforts out. However, on 25 minutes, another attack down the right resulted in our 2nd goal, Katie running to the base line, pulling back to Chopper to sweep it in. Half time we were 2 goals to the good.

2nd half we needed to try and conserve our energy and make the ball do the work, however N&T came at us wave after wave and short corner after short corner, but the defence of Bekah, Claire, Hannah, Charli and Goat held firm and Jess doing a sterling job running 1 at short corners. We dug deep and battled hard.
We had a couple of chance to extend our lead, most notably Katie with a one on one with their keeper, but it wasn't to be!

A great team performance, everyone giving it their all. Well done ladies ????
