A trip to Maidenhead for Ladies 1s today, and it was a tale of 2 halves.
Again we only had the 1 sub! Not ideal With one player leaving her sick bed to play.
Buddha, asked us to do the 6 things we have been working on in training the last few weeks,
* First thought as a team and as an individual?
* Connections and communicating?
* Protect the egg? Don't force it?
* Run support lines?
* Give the defence problems?
* Ball speed and accuracy?
And this was one of, if not the best game of hockey we played. Connections were happening, support lines, triangles and transfers it was great to be part of and see.
First half ended 1-0 to Maidenhead, their striker clinical in front of goal. Our first half we hit the post, had ball cleared off the line and came up against a keeper who was superwoman, flying between the posts keeping all our efforts out.
2nd half and we suddenly found ourselves 3-0 down. We rallied and kept playing our game, doing our 6 things and got the score back to 3-2 from 2 short corners, Steph then Sharpie scoring.
Unfortunately after that, Maidenhead scored a further 3 goals!
Everyone played so well today, running around the pitch and giving it their all. A tough one to take, but super proud of the performance. We learn from this, pick ourselves up and go again next week.
Full time 6-2 Maidenhead.
Scorers: Steph and Sharpie
MOM: Ivy ???? A fantastic performance by our youngest player, showing great maturity and game understanding, running all match and never giving up.
DOD: Sarah, for wearing the wrong socks and having to borrow some.
