Match report: Thame v Reading
This week Thame Ladies 1s faced the top of the table, playing against Reading. We came out strong with an early goal from Sharpie after a strong pass up the line to Katie and then passed to Sharpie for her to put past the goalie within the first two minutes.
With Thame breaking onto the score board first, Reading were determined to level things up. Both teams were working hard and fighting for possession with Thame having the slight upper hand until a quick break from Reading evened the score making it 1-1 in the 14th minute. Followed not long after was the first short corner for Thame which sadly went wide of the goal.
Reading continued to break through our defensive line and eventually took the lead for the first time in the game making it 2-1. While things looked to going in Thame’s favour with 2 short corners right before the half time whistle sadly the score remained unchanged.
After a good team talk from Charli we were all determined to go out strong in the second half. This wasn’t quite enough though as Reading managed to get another one past our goalie making it 3-1 shortly after halftime restart. Thame continued to battle through feeling the pressure with formation and drive falling and another missed short corner. Reading were able to get another goal through making it 4-1.
After a last push Thame managed to hold them back and gained another couple attacking short corners but once again couldn’t gain much more from them. With a few frustrating bits of play and missed feet from the umpire the game ended with Reading taking the win. Even though we may have lost this game as a team we were still able to take away a few positives like not having given away any defensive shorts and the many opportunities that we did have on goal even if we couldn’t follow it through to the final score.
