Thame U12 Boys – Chiltern Premier League – Final Round

Thame travelled the opulent surroundings of Stowe School this morning to play their final 3 games in the Chiltern Premier League Round 6.
We arrived and were ready from the start and forced a draw with Buckingham. We battled hard, passed well, made their keeper work hard, but also defended well (Lucas made an outstanding stop on the line) with a strong back line and dealt with the barriers laid down by the umpire: We ended the game 0-0.
We moved to play Amersham and despite a strong start, were 2-0 down at half time and had 2 players forced off with minor “knocks”. So, we played a different structure for the final 9’ and despite the enforced change came thru with a respectable 0-4 loss. Again, the boys, particularly Sam, Max and Theo, all out of their usual positions, battled well and stopped many attacks from the league’s best team. Ned was unlucky in goal and made some outstanding saves.
We then moved to the final game with Southgate. We started brightly despite the previous loss but found ourselves 2-0 down with some choice shots from the Southgate team. However, this was the period of the game I was delighted with – We battled back with clean passing and team work with Lucas, Ben, Louie, Charlie and Olly all coming together to bully 2 quick goals passed a stunned Southgate. We went into half time 2-2. The second halve was an end to end battle – both teams seeking the win. We were very unlucky following a series of events that resulted in Southgate scoring in the final minute of the game to “win” 3-2. We played well, battled and were unlucky however the team stuck together, and this experience will be perfect for the upcoming Oxfordshire League games in a few weeks’ time.
We finished 4th out of ~40 teams entering this league series.
Thanks to the parents who supported us this morning and to Nanette Dart and Richard Birkby for the photos – Most appreciated.
Final point: Over the past 2 seasons, and special thanks to Colin Peacock, the Chiltern League series has been a welcomed addition to the fixture list so we thank you for your vision and enhancing the boys skill level.
