THC Ladies 2's draw away at Witney 4's 0-0

A draw at the beach today in Witney!

The Ladies 2's set off for their second league game, away v Witney 4's, 1.30pm pushback. Before we even got on the pitch flood waters and road closures were conspiring against some of us making it for the start.

Spiller, in her new car, sent Jane out to check floodwater depth with her hockey stick only to realise a detour was required! We were making plans to start without the Fab Four but they arrived just in the nick of time, phew! We also welcomed two new juniors to the squad today, Tabs & Mogs, for their first 2's match.

We were playing on Witney's newly resurfaced pitch or should I say beach, I've never seen so much surface sand! The recent weather had prevented a pre match sweep of the sand so we had to quickly adapt to the very slow and bumpy surface, but it was the same for both teams. The first half saw us struggling to settle into our positions and whilst everyone was giving maximum effort we were a bit on top of each other and struggling to use our wings.

Hannah was keeping everything settled in the middle and Lizzie and Sophie were making great runs into the oppositions half. We gave away a couple of short corners but generally kept Winey out of our half. We had two subs which worked well to give everyone a rest and in the second half, our aim was to keep the pace up, use the width of the pitch and keep talking to each other.

Mogs and Tabs kept running and running, both penetrating into the D and Tabs got a great strike across the goal that we couldn't quite get on the end of. Jane had several runs into the D, a few chats with their GK who had some interesting tactics, and was unlucky not to score. Spiller was tireless tracking back and then pushing forward and linking up with Jane.

The whole team continued to be fully committed, Mell getting in a full tackle and combat roll off the pitch. Hannah was unlucky to get a green card from their umpire after a perfectly clean tackle that the opposition player decided to fall over after.

Daisy, Lisi, Fluffy and Clara were solid in the back four breaking down any Witney attacks and the game finished with a successfully defended short corner and no goals. 0-0 Well played everyone! Queen of the Team Lizzie, Cone Head,Hannah for the card!
