Ladies 3s continued their winning streak with a 6-0 victory at Banbury Road North on Saturday. It was an early start, but we all made it - despite some injuries and illness during the week. We made an attacking start, with some great running and an early goal from Rosie - who also received MoM from Hawks and willingly shared the chocolate prize with the team. Meg was soon in the mix, playing in an unfamiliar role as inner, but scoring twice from good positioning on the post. Lizzie and Jess - both recovering from illness - subbed in on the forward line and made some great contributions, tackling back high up the pitch and both rewarded with goals. The team communication and working together in the D, using Jaypee's 3Ps, brought the goals home. Hawks came back at us with renewed determination in the second half, and several running attacks that tested our defence. Bea proved to be a reliable defender at the back, with some great tackling and solid clearances, and Julie kept them out on the right of the pitch, including a fantastic save on the line. We welcomed Charlotte back in as goalie and her movement in the D and some memorable saves and kicks proved frustrating for the opposition. In the final minutes of the game, a solid slap hit in towards goal by Vix was rewarded with a goal when it deflected behind the keeper off a defender (I'll take that!). All-in-all, a great outing from Ladies 3s, showing real strength in depth, several people playing out of position and pushing some of our normal midfield and defenders into the forward line. We're top of Div 5, and our goal difference is looking great. After a flying start, we're looking forward to some testing games against strong teams in our division in the coming weeks.
