Our 2-road trip game is as many weeks at Hawks today ended with a crushing 9-0 win for THC U14 boys! After last week’s 15 goal haul. I was a little concerned we would have struggle at Hawks given the depth at the club. We were welcomed with glorious conditions, a full house of very vocal and passionate away spectators, two excellent umpires and a glorious pitch.
The game started at a good pace and the first 10’ were all about Thame – Playing into the late Autumn sun, we pressed well, passed well, had good width, battled for the ball and totally controlled the game from the midfield: We were rewarded with a well worked team goal after 12’. This totally shocked Hawks (who’s pre match banter was “who are Thame” and other less complimentary statements) and they could not answer at all. Thame then dominated the first half and only made a few passing moves into our D which were swiftly dispatched by the solid defence and Zak in goal. In fact, the difference was simply this – We played as a team, Hawks had lots of individuals and could not string passes together. We went into half time 5-0 up after a controlled and pressing performance.
The boys worked hard in the second half as Hawks tried to find their rhythm, however we sat back, absorbed the pressure and played the ball out well from the back. We were rewarded with 4 further goals, 2 of which were break away efforts where our speed and fitness proved to the edge we needed (Towersey pain was worth it I dare say!). The boys tired in the final 5’ and Hawks pressed hard to secure a consolation goal, but the defence did they job, stayed in position and stayed calm.
A delightful team performance and everyone played a major role in today’s success.
Another clean sheet for the defence plus goals this week from:
Olly – 5
Barney – 3
Louie – 1
Thanks again to the parents for supporting us, for their photos and to the coaching team who provided the necessary grounding this week to prepare the team. We move on to Slough next week where we hope to progress further.
