Boys U14 V Wycombe

A mild Sunday lunchtime saw Thame U14 Boys at home against a very strong Wycombe 'Development' side.
The game started with Wycombe having the pushback and immediately into attacking the Thame goal. A long shot which had Zak putting their attack under pressure with both a fierce stare and an imposing stance, saw the shot go wide.
It wasn’t too long before Wycombe were again on the attack, this time their pressure paid-off and scored a goal (1-0).
Thame Boys kept their heads-up and with Rhys pressing up the field, Thame won their first short corner. Great defending by Wycombe pushed the ball back out and their midfield held the ball well, making their way along the wing and a long pass into the D saw Wycombe scored their second (2-0).
Shortly after the restart, Wycombe were on the attack again. Hugo and Leo putting in great effort to stop Wycombe, Leo literally putting his body on the line and taking a knock on the foot. A quick rest on the sideline and some deep recovery breathing, had Leo returning into action.
Wycombe attacked again with a long shot, hitting the post. Esa jumped straight onto it and pushed it out of the D to safety.
Wave after wave of Wycombe attacks put Thame under pressure again. Zak was displaying great resolve in goal, but with some slick passing the ball around, Wycombe scored another goal (3-0).
Not giving-up, Thame pushed straight back up the field and had a long shot of their own from George, the Wycombe keeper pouncing onto the ball in a panic! It was clear from the sideline, that their Keeper was not expecting that!
Strong defending from both Tom and Esa, holding Wycombe at bay until the half had finished.
At the start of the second half, Wycombe were immediately on the attack again. Leaving them with too much space just inside the D, the trigger was pulled (4-0).
Thame held the ball well, with a few smooth passes to each other, had Wycombe chasing. A strong return attack, split the defence open and another goal (5-0).
A wall of a Wycombe attacks had Thame valiantly defending. Zak pushed ball after ball out of the goal, Tom and Esa busy in defence however, more structured passing of the ball from player to player, resulted in another Wycombe goal (6-0).
Shortly after the restart, Wycombe attacked again and had another goal and the game finished (7-0).
Having agreed it with the Wycombe Coach, we played another 15 minutes and swapped a couple of players with Wycombe.
Straight from the off, Thame with their new shape, saw a quick goal from a borrowed player.
Thame continued to press hard and with an attack straight down the middle, Will made his way into the D and scored a goal (2-0).
Some great runs and passing of the ball out to Rhys, saw Thame on the attack again and again.
Tom and Esa again standing strong in defence, pushing the ball out to the wings, had the ball make its way up to the Wycombe D, bring their keeper into action.
With Wycombe pushing-out in what can only be described as a ‘Blue Wall’, saw them claw a goal back (2-1).
Thame were clearly not having that and pushed straight up the centre after the restart and scored their third (3-1). This followed shortly by a long cross from the outside of the D and Thame scoring their fourth (4-1).
It wasn’t too long before George pushed up the field and drew-back with ferocity, to score again (5-1).
At the end both teams joined and we all discussed what was a great display both all players. The Wycombe Coach did admit to me that a few players had seen some County trials action, so Thame Boys should hold their heads high and be proud of such a great effort.
No pics I’m afraid, as with Biro in hand and trying to shout-out the instructions Matt had left us from the sideline, additional multitasking would have definitely seen me collapse under pressure!
